Privacy Policy

The short version
- Roomy scans your Mac on your Mac. The names, sizes and contents of your files are never sent to us or anyone else.
- There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, in the app or on this website. The website sets no cookies.
- If you buy Roomy, our payment partner Polar processes the payment. Roomy then checks your license key with Polar, sending the key and your Mac’s name.
- A small file in your own iCloud Drive lets your Macs recognize each other. We can’t see it.
- You can ask us what we hold about you, or to delete it, at support@roomymac.app.
This Privacy Policy explains what information is handled when you use the website roomymac.app (the “Website”) and the Roomy app for macOS (the “App”, together the “Service”), why, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at support@roomymac.app.
Who we are
Roomy is made by Huy Pham, an independent developer based in Vietnam (“we”, “us”, “our”). For the purposes of data protection law, we are the controller of the personal information described in this policy, except where we say a partner acts as an independent controller (for example, Polar for payments).

What Roomy does with your files
Roomy is a disk space tool. To show where your storage goes, the App reads file and folder names, sizes and dates on your Mac. It does not open, read or upload the contents of your files. All of this happens on your Mac: scan results stay on your Mac and are never sent to us or to anyone else.
If you give Roomy Full Disk Access (optional), it can also measure folders that macOS normally hides, such as Mail, Messages, Safari and the Trash. The App only reads sizes there and never changes those folders.
When you choose to clean up, Roomy deletes or moves to the Trash only the items you selected, on your Mac.
Information we collect
On the Website
- No cookies or tracking. The Website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels, fingerprinting or similar technologies, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts.
- Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically processes technical information needed to deliver pages and protect the service, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. These logs are kept for a limited period for security and reliability.
In the App
- Settings, stored on your Mac. Your reminder choices, language, and a summary of your last scan (totals only, such as how much space was safe to remove) are saved in
~/Library/Application Support/app.roomymac.storage/on your Mac. - A small file in your iCloud Drive. To tell your Macs apart and decide which Mac is free, Roomy keeps one small file per Mac in a hidden folder (
.roomy) in your own iCloud Drive. It contains an identifier for the Mac, the Mac’s name, and when it first and last used Roomy. The identifier is a one-way hash of the Mac’s hardware ID, so the hardware ID itself is not stored. If you buy Roomy, a copy of your license key is stored there too, so your other Macs can unlock themselves. This folder lives in your iCloud account under Apple’s terms; we cannot access it. If iCloud Drive is off, nothing is written there. - Notifications. Checkup reminders and low-space warnings are created by macOS on your Mac. No server is involved.
- No telemetry. The App does not include analytics, crash reporting, advertising identifiers or tracking of any kind.
When you buy Roomy
Purchases are processed by Polar (polar.sh), which acts as the merchant of record. Polar collects the information needed to complete the purchase, such as your name, email address, billing address and payment details, calculates taxes and sends your receipt, under Polar’s privacy policy. We never receive your full payment card details.
From Polar we receive order information: your email address, name, country, what you bought, the amount paid and an order reference. When you buy from inside the App, the order reference includes the identifier of the Mac you bought from, so we can help if something goes wrong.
When you activate a license
When you activate, check or remove a license key, the App contacts Polar’s license service and sends: the license key, Roomy’s organization ID at Polar, your Mac’s name and the Mac identifier described above. Polar returns whether the key is valid and the email address the purchase was made with, which the App shows in Settings. The App checks the key again about once a week; if it can’t reach Polar, your Mac stays unlocked.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to answer you.
What we do not collect
We do not collect the contents of your files, your file names or scan results, your location, contacts, photos, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or any “sensitive” category of personal data.
How we use information
We use the information above only to:
- provide the Service, including activating licenses and preventing misuse of license keys;
- process purchases, refunds and receipts (through Polar);
- answer your questions and support requests;
- keep the Website and Service secure and working;
- meet legal obligations, such as keeping records required for tax and accounting.
We do not sell or rent personal information, use it for advertising or profiling, or use it to train AI models.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar laws)
Where the GDPR, UK GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on:
- Contract: to sell you a license, activate it and provide support you ask for;
- Legitimate interests: to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse of license keys and run the Website reliably, in ways you would reasonably expect and that do not override your rights;
- Legal obligation: to keep purchase records required by law;
- Consent: where we ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only as needed:
| Provider | What for | Information |
|---|---|---|
| Polar | Payments, taxes, receipts and license keys (merchant of record) | Purchase and license information described above |
| Our website host | Delivering the Website | Server logs |
| Apple | iCloud Drive and notifications on your Mac, under your agreement with Apple | The small .roomy files in your iCloud Drive |

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a transfer of the Roomy business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
International transfers
We are based in Vietnam, and our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where the law requires it, these transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep information
- Purchase and license records: for as long as your license is active, and afterwards as long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Support emails: up to two years after the conversation ends, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Website server logs: for a limited period set by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
- Information on your Mac and in your iCloud Drive: until you delete it (see below).
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent. To use any of these rights, email support@roomymac.app. We will answer within 30 days and may need to confirm your identity first. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Removing Roomy’s data yourself:
- Turn off reminders in Roomy’s Settings to remove its background task, then move Roomy to the Trash.
- Delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/app.roomymac.storage/. - Delete the hidden
.roomyfolder in your iCloud Drive.
California residents: in the last 12 months we collected identifiers (such as your email address and Mac identifier), commercial information (your purchase) and internet activity information (website server logs), for the purposes described above. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information. You have the right to know, delete and correct your information, and we will not discriminate against you for using these rights.
Vietnam: you have the rights of a data subject under Vietnam’s personal data protection law, including to be informed, to access, correct and delete your data, and to withdraw consent.
Cookies
The Website does not use cookies or similar storage. Polar’s checkout pages, which open on Polar’s own website, may use cookies as described in Polar’s policies.
Security
We keep the amount of information we handle as small as possible: your files are processed only on your Mac, the Website is served only over HTTPS, and license checks go directly from the App to Polar over an encrypted connection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect the information we hold.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. We will post the new version on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and if a change is significant we will highlight it here before it takes effect.
