Terms of Service
Last updated · Effective
The short version
- Roomy is free on one Mac. A one-time purchase of $1.99 unlocks cleanup on every Mac you own. There is no subscription.
- Purchases are sold and processed by our reseller Polar, and Polar’s checkout terms apply to the payment.
- Cleanup deletes the caches and build files you choose and moves your own files to the Trash. Review what you select and keep a backup of anything important.
- Please don’t share or resell license keys, or try to get around the license check.
- Roomy is provided “as is”, and our liability is limited as far as the law allows.
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Huy Pham, the independent developer who makes Roomy (“we”, “us”, “our”). They apply to the Roomy app for macOS (the “App”) and the website roomymac.app (the “Website”), together the “Service”. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information and is part of these Terms.
By downloading, installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
The Service
Roomy scans your Mac to show, in plain language, what is using your disk space, recommends what can be removed, and removes the items you choose. It can also remind you to check your storage and warn you when free space runs low.
- Free plan. You can scan, explore your storage and see recommendations on any Mac. Cleaning up through Roomy’s recommendations is free on one Mac: the first Mac you use Roomy on that is still in use (your “free Mac”). If you stop using that Mac, you can move the free plan to another Mac, at most once every 30 days.
- Roomy for all your Macs. A one-time purchase unlocks cleanup on all the Macs you own or personally use, up to the activation limit shown at purchase.
Who can use Roomy
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service, or at least 16 in the European Economic Area. To buy a license you must be able to enter into a binding contract where you live, or have permission from a parent or guardian.
Your license to use Roomy
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to install and use the App on Macs you own or control, for your own personal or internal business use, under these Terms. The App is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights not expressly granted to you.
Purchases and payment
- Our reseller. Purchases are sold and processed by Polar (polar.sh), which acts as our reseller and merchant of record. When you buy, you also agree to Polar’s checkout terms, and Polar handles payment, sales tax or VAT, invoices and receipts.
- Price. The price is shown before you pay, in US dollars, and taxes are added where they apply. It is a single payment. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
- License key. After you buy, you receive a license key. Enter it in the App, on any of your Macs. If iCloud Drive is on, your other Macs signed in to the same iCloud account unlock automatically.
- Updates. Your purchase includes the version of the App you buy and any updates we choose to release at no extra charge. We don’t promise any particular update or feature.
- Refunds. If Roomy doesn’t work for you, email us within 14 days of your purchase and we will arrange a refund through Polar. Polar may also issue refunds under its own policies. If you live in a country that gives you a legal right to cancel digital purchases, nothing in these Terms limits that right.
Acceptable use
When using the Service, please don’t:
- share, publish, sell or transfer license keys, or use one key for Macs that aren’t yours;
- remove, disable or get around the license check or the free plan limits;
- copy, modify, or distribute the App, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows this despite this restriction;
- use the Service to break the law or to harm the Service or other people;
- interfere with the Website, for example by overloading it or scraping it at a harmful rate.
We may suspend or deactivate license keys that are shared, resold, obtained through fraud or reversed through a chargeback.
Cleanup and your data
Roomy works on your files, so please read this section carefully.
- You choose what is removed. Roomy only removes what you select and confirm: items from its recommendations, or items you choose to move to the Trash from the storage map.
- What happens to removed items. Items Roomy marks as rebuildable, such as caches, logs and build files, are deleted permanently. Apps and macOS recreate them when needed, which can make the next launch, build or download slower. Your own files, such as downloads, videos and apps, are moved to the Trash. Once you empty the Trash, they can’t be recovered by Roomy.
- Things Roomy won’t touch. Roomy is designed not to remove items in iCloud Drive, your Photos library, Mail, Messages, your Keychain or your SSH keys, and not to remove system files.
- Back up what matters. You are responsible for your files and for keeping backups, for example with Time Machine. Review your selection before you confirm a cleanup. Some apps may need to download data again or ask you to sign in again after their caches are cleared.
Third-party services
The Service relies on services we don’t control, including Polar (payments and license keys) and Apple’s macOS and iCloud. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them. We are not responsible for those services, but we will help where we can.
Intellectual property
The App, the Website, and the Roomy name, logo and design belong to us and are protected by law. These Terms don’t give you any right to use them except to use the Service as allowed here. Mac, macOS, iCloud and Apple silicon are trademarks of Apple Inc. Roomy is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely without any obligation to you.
Changes to the Service
We may change, improve or stop offering parts of the Service. If we ever stop selling Roomy, we will make reasonable efforts to keep existing paid licenses working. If the App can’t reach the license service, Macs that are already unlocked stay unlocked.
Ending these Terms
You can stop using the Service at any time by deleting the App. We may suspend or end your license if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. Sections that by their nature should continue after these Terms end, such as the sections on cleanup and your data, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law, will continue to apply.
Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, THAT IT WILL FREE ANY PARTICULAR AMOUNT OF SPACE, OR THAT IT WILL MEET YOUR NEEDS.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising out of or related to the Service, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for Roomy in the 12 months before the claim, or US$10 if you paid nothing.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law, and some of the limitations above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable legal costs that arise from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any formal dispute, please email us so we can try to solve the problem together within 30 days. Any dispute that we can’t resolve informally will be brought before the competent courts of Vietnam. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence and may bring a claim in its courts where that law allows.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and for important changes we will give notice on this page before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
